What did you have for dinner, then?

Those of you who have liked the images of waterfalls & rivers I've attached to previous news posts might be interested in having a look at my collection of stuff on deviantART.

I opened up a DenvishNG account on there a few days ago, only to discover that I already registered an account (but didn't activate it) six years ago. So I've uploaded quite a few photographs there, mostly of nature & water. I don't claim to be a pro photographer, but I've caught a few nice scenes here and there with the digicam.

If you're into that kind of stuff, have a look - deviantART.

Thinking too much is dangerous

Snowdrops and daffodils have risen and are in bloom. Hazel hedges hung with catkins, tiny green buds waiting to burst on all the trees. Mornings are misty but once that clears, the sunshine is like a tonic to the skin and soul.

Feels like it's been a long, long winter. Made the half-hour trip down to Dylife yesterday for the first time this year, and was reminded what a gorgeous, peaceful spot it is. The sound of the stream bubbling and the birds singing, I could sit and listen to that, and watch the water's ever-changing flow, for hours.

Just wish I had that special someone to share it all with.

Spring

Nothing

Posted by Denvish - February 9th, 2009

Hello.

I finally have ADSL out here in Wales! Bloody marvellous!!

This of course means that browsing the BBS and visiting NG in general are now actually an option - on dial-up the pages were stopping halfway through loading. How frequently I'll be on NG of course depends on how much time I can spare around the full time job as game dev.

It's good to see that some of the Flash forum regs are still active, haven't visited General yet but probably will work my way up to some level of regular visiting. I will be trying to help out in the Flash forum, although I still haven't got me head around AS3 yet (don't need it for work, still on AS2). Will also hopefully be hanging out occasionally in Wi/Ht and Audio.

In answer to vague rumours, yes, I have also had some pretty major personal issues over the past year, but don't really think that they need to be described on NG. I'm coping.

I would like to get some games made for public release too but it's tricky finding time for that outside of the job and various other finger pies.

Many thanks to all those that have left notes saying I've been missed, and also a HUGE lump of gratitude to ramagi for depositing on my behalf for over a year, a LOT longer than was originally intended.

See you around.

quack.

May be back

BT suck. 6 months after moving into the new house, I'm STILL on 28.8k dialup. I'm NOT impressed.

Here's the deal. Once I have ADSL/6Mb, I'll be back on NG at least semi-regularly. In terms of Flash dev work, I'm ft employed making games for Vizwoz.com - so if you want to see my latest work, sign up there - although it's mostly reproductions of existing games, since that's what they want. If/when I can spare the time to start making my own games again, expect to see them on NG, Kongregate, and denvish.net - but it might be a while. Need to get the bills paid as priority....

...not that anyone will really notice, given my current activity levels. I had a brief spurt of activity a short while ago, but basically my interest levels in NG have waned recently. I've been barely active as a BBS mod or poster, I haven't been on the Flash portal for weeks/months, and although I've been regularly clearing the AP pending list, the two weeks' enforced internet absence (see previous News Post) gives me a good excuse to try and cut down the amount of time I spend in front of the PC.

I have to thank Tom/NG for the inspiration to start making games, and the exposure. I have to thank the community for accepting me, as an older user, and giving me a great time here - from my first submission, 7 Kisses, through my statwhore time up to EGSC and beyond in Wi/Ht, to the great community we had going with Inglor, liam & co in the Flash forum - from the Star Syndicate fun, to drunken ranting threads in General - from being there with James at the creation of the Audio Forum, to the excitement of the redesign... it's been a blast, and although I'm not going to mention names due to fear of missing out vital ones, I'd like to thank ALL of you for making my time here so enjoyable and fun.

I requested that Tom de-BBS-mod me, although I will remain as an audio mod for the moment

I may well be back at some point in the future, but I feel it only fair that I should let those who know me into what's going on, why I haven't been around much, and why I'm not likely to be around much for a while.

Keep well and stay happy :)

See you anon

Cheers

Retiring (mostly) from NG

So we found a house, a nice one, in Wales, and we're starting the lease this Thursday (4th), although we probably won't move in until the 10/11th - the lease on our current house expires on the 12th. Which gives us 6 days (or 9, from today) to get everything boxed up and moved.

It's not until you start putting stuff in boxes that you realise the sheer MASS of shit you've accrued over the years. I used to be able to move with just a rucksack and guitar case, then it became a car full - now, with the kids' stuff and basically a family home, it's a 7.5 tonne truck and then some. I'm going to do a few runs in the car before the main truck (furniture) run on the 10th, just to clear enough space in the garage & my office to get the furniture near the door and boxes to be stacked. It's about 1.5 - 2 hours to the new house, so technically I could do two or more runs in a day, but having a few days to do it over, hopefully that won't be necessary.

Worst thing is that due to various circumstances, it's looking like I'll be sans internet for a week or two. It's strange how you get so reliant on just being able to Google, or communicating via email. My life these days, what with finally being taken on as a permanent game dev for the company I was contracting for, revolves around the computer, so I really hope it doesn't get temperamental about travelling... it doesn't like being turned off in general for more than 5 minutes.

Looks like my office is going to be in the garage, so the girls can sleep apart. I'm used to be surrounded by junk, so hopefully that won't be an issue. The girls are going to have to learn Welsh as part of their schooling, which should be interesting. I think it's going to be a culture shock for them and Katy, but once we've been there a month or two, I think we'll all appreciate the vast improvement in life and air quality. K will be weekending with her parents back here every fortnight, which will give me some much-missed 'own time', something I haven't really had in the six years we've lived in Birmigham.

All in all, not looking forward to moving stuff, but REALLY looking forward to being out in rurality again.

Oh, and I had another molar out this morning, and it bloody hurts now.

Still no prospects of creating anything for NG in the near future :(

[EDIT] Here is the house, and yes, those are sheep in the field behind, and no, I'm not going to be shagging them

Moving house!
