Bit of a different slant on the kitty cannon genre, the upgrades add a new dimension. Graphics and coding excellent, and the medals not impossibly hard. Pretty addictive but having beaten the 1 million mark (1193463.9) I think that's probably enough. Slight bug/flaw in that once you've topped 183 off the top of the screen it seems to always go back up to 183 so long as you hold W&D and don't hit anything. Cannon at 45, full power, sniper rifle once, then missile, then the rest of the sniper rifle bullets before hitting ground again.
Thoroughly enjoyed the game, well done.
VERY good for a first game, your work seams together nicely. Love the concept, game engine is pretty sweet, my only complaint is the american voiceover, and there should be more 'oh, crikey', 'what dashing bad luck' etc during the gameplay. Overall, brilliant.
Nice work. Graphics/animations looked cool, gameplay was interesting. music was a bit tinny in places, and the game could have benefitted from some soundFX. Pretty entertaining though, and a cut above the majority of games on NG. Well done!
Since I didn't hack the game, I must be 1337
Great game, this kept me entertained for two or three hours. Quick bug while it's still in my mind: the first time you get through the DarkFaire tournament, the second time you fight the elf - if you don't kill him in one shot, 'SIRATH UNDEFINED' comes up, and nothing happens (no options, you just stand there looking at each other). Not a problem, just reloaded the save file, went through it a couple of times with the new weapon (Fengus in one shot is satisfaction embodied, btw) to boost my level up to 13, and Cold Blooded him.
Found two of the secret weapons, not sure about the second one involving the ring, since I'd already given it away by the time I read that review response. I'll probably play it through again to find out, at some stage.
GFX: Not played WoW, but a big fan of Warcraft. Good job on ripping the characters from the game and incorporating them into Flash. Animations looked great.
Game style: very well presented and coded, I can appreciate the amount of work that's gone into this.
Sound: SFX were nice, wasn't so keen on the music. Probably the weakest part of the game.
Violence: Could have used blood, I suppose, but the fact that you chose not to didn't detract from the game.
Humour: lol@merlocs and their voices
Overall: One of the best games I've seen on NG for a looooong time. Also kudos for getting linked from the WoW Front Page, and for getting sponsored by NG. I look forward to seeing your next piece of work - if it's anything like this, it'll be a real treat.
That bug was supposed to be fixed, give it a while to upload. Thanks for the comments! :D
Congrats on the Daily Feature/Front Page, well deserved. Great game, really challenging both physically (as in co-ordination) and mentally. Some sweet coding (no surprise there), and some really nice simple graphics, effects and transitions.
Came across one glitch though, not sure what caused it. Level 18, made it to the end - but for some reason (I wasn't touching anything), I lost a life and had to restart.
Wonder if this would be easier to play with the graphics tablet.....
Anyway, excellent job, nice to see one of NG's best scripters get some thing on the portal, and awards as a result.
Thanks for the review, we definately appreciate it. Coming from an actionscripter of your level, i appreciate your comments.
And I loved Runaway Kart too, good to see you're getting recognition. You deserve it.
I.... HATE..... pandas
Time to catch up, I really need to be getting on with my own games =)
Graphics were very sweet, coding was top-notch, game was great. My favourite DD submission for sure. It's obvious that a lot of effort went into this, and it's just really nicely presented and polished. I'm disappointed that it didn't make the dailies, I think it deserved to.
Now I'm not sure about the whole mongoose thing, and it's a bit annoying when my 'friends' keep shooting me, lol. 72156 current best, I'll be back to play this again
Good job, and thanks
thanks for the compliments. i thought DF's art was perfect for this game, and the coding was a great learning experience for me. i hoped to make the dailies, or even frontpage, but no such luck.
as for your friends: i was trying to capture the TRUE essence of negONE...
glad you liked it.
authorblues (and DFB by proxy)...
WTF!? You will never become a mod.
Very basic, could have used some vector graphics, but not bad for something thrown together in a couple of hours.
I'm sick of hearing that damn song now, though =)
JUST LIKE REAL LIFE
Interesting twist on 'Defend Your...'. Fun little game, I like the NG-stylee graphics and it's just SO MUCH FUN to zap them fuckers with my banstick.
The 'GAME OVER' text was funneh.
Don't really understand why it lags so badly (even on LoQ), but I eventually died at 817 because all of them suddenly leapt from the middle to batter the ring, and my stick wouldn't move without jerking about 30 degrees.
Still, cool game =)
C - Good :S
Man, this is hard. I can avoid the debris, but I keep getting hit by those things that flash on the horizon - not sure how to avoid them, also, I can't make out what's going on with my head - am I completely bald?
I love the bouncing when I get hit
I know you probably threw it together in limited time, but if you changed the premise (ie, non-D-Day) and added some power-ups and different enemies, you've got a pretty good basis for a game there.
Thanks for taking the time to make this =)
Wow, thanks man!
And yeah, the bulk of the scripting and menus were done since 22:00 on Sunday 4th. I missed a lot of stuff I wanted to add, and a lot the coding is painfully inefficient.
I'm DEAD AGAIN
Heh, well I have to say I didn't expect to see something like this. I haven't managed to get over 10 yet because I chopped all my fingers off in a fit of pique and am having to use my nose (which is tricky), but I'll keep trying.
So yeah, thanks for taking the time to put something together, it helps make this ridiculous day even more surreal =)
